FireFly SIP/IAX2 softphone

3.1.6. FireFly SIP/IAX2 softphone

This softphone client supports both IAX and SIP users. You can download it freely from http://www.virbiage.com/firefly/download/. Before registring a user to this softphone you have to be sure that you have already installed Asterisk and registered the user on the asterisk`s conf files which we described in the previous chapter.

The defualt skin looks like this:

From the menu you can adjust all settings you may need

Here we choose to adjust the network settings by clicking Network.

Choose a name for the network, write the IP address of the server and the users name and password. I have chosen to name my network SCX and to register the user ivan_iax which is IAX so I have to check the radio button on IAX and respectively if the user is SIP registered you have to choose the SIP radio button from Network Type. My Asterisk server is 10.3.3.25 you must type the IP address of your Asterisk server. The Username I have chosen is ivan_iax and the password must be the same as the secret for the user ivan_iax in iax.conf. The audio codecs are checked by default so leave them like this.

NB!!!Firefly is no longer available. It has been replaced by Cubix

I connected firefly with asterisk but only I can do calls from it. If i want to call firfly nothing works. In the asterisk log the status of firefly is always UNREACHABLE.
i hope someone can help me. Can it be a problem by installing other softphones on one PC with firefly?

It seems that the software is now called "Cubix", and is downloadable at http://www.virbiage.com/cubix.php. It's free for personal use, but allows OEM licensing.

My firefly softphone for IAX keeps ringing even when i click 'accept', and therefore i can't hear anything. i have also had incidences of it crashing. how do i go about this??

hi, i am using firefly-thirdparty in my office, i have in my office a ISA Server 2000 firewall, and the building in where my office be, have the voip server, my ISA server machine it is connect to the building network becouse the building network also gave me the internet connection.

the problem is this, the firefly-thirdparty work good in my ISA Server machine, but in machines of my internal network the firefly-thirdparty dont work, the error is the next:

An error has ocurredwhile try to connect to the parquesoft network ........

i was open the ports 4569 in tcp and udp, but dont work, if you can help me i remained very thanked

Firefly does not support call transfers, nor does it pipe the server music-on-hold when the hold button is pressed, rendering it a home/home-office only application and not suitable for even a 2-person business (IMHO).

yes - you can, you must download g729.dll and put it in your firefly folder. Afterwards the check-box in front of g729 will be active.
